I’m always interested in reviewing the latest trends in cosmetic surgery. According to new plastic surgery statistics released by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, breast lift procedures are increasing in popularity at twice the rate of breast implant surgeries. The report notes that since 2000, breast lifts have grown by 70 percent, outpacing implants two-to-one. Nevertheless, in my practice at the Robert Zubowski MD Center for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, where I am the Medical Director, breast implants are still the most performed cosmetic surgery.
Now it is not unusual for a woman who seeks a breast augmentation via implants to also undergo a mastopexy (breast lift) at the same time. It’s been my experience that by combining these two procedures, patients receive maximum aesthetic benefit and are invariably delighted with the results. We also use the breast lift technique on women seeking a breast reduction.
How can you tell if you might be a candidate for a mastopexy? Try this. Braless, stand before a mirror and place a pencil under your breast. If the pencil doesn’t fall it suggests the breast tissue is drooping and you might want to consider a breast lift.
In my more than 25 years in practice as a board-certified plastic surgeon, the Robert Zubowski MD Center for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in Paramus, NJ, has become known as a center of excellence for such surgeries.
