For years, traditional lip augmentation has required placement of a variety of either synthetic or natural materials to enhance volume.  The spectrum of treatment has ranged from using ones own tissue as in fat injection and grafts, which combine fat and skin, to synthetic materials such as cables of suture material.  More recently, injectable fillers including collagen, Restylane, Juvederm, Artefill and a variety of other substance have been used due to their ease of application.  All of these modalities have been fraught with the same problem; that is, unpredictability of duration, the need for repetitive treatment and at times, un-natural results.

There is now however, a relatively new treatment for lip enhancement called PermaLip™ witch involves placing a small, soft silicone implant just under the soft tissues of the upper or lower lip.  The relatively simple procedure is performed under local anesthesia utilizing small inconspicuous incisions in the corner of the mouth through which the implants are placed.  There is a short period of swelling lasting several days with very little discomfort.  The results are truly amazing.  In fact, PermaLip™ augmentation is usually more natural looking and feeling than any other method of lip augmentation and is permanent – no need for repetitive injections two to three times a year.  The implants come in a variety of sizes to meet most patients needs and is indicated for both younger patients looking to enhance the size of their lips, as well in older patients who may have lost volume over the years and want to restore a more youthful appearance to the lips.

Finally, for those patients who may be nervous about the look or the size, the procedure is completely reversible.  Send us your questions regarding this innovative lip implant procedure and we will be happy to address your concerns.
