If you’re a woman of a certain age and feel like your lips are less full and lush with every passing year, you’re not imagining it. While both men and women experience this as part of normal aging women are more aware of it because in most cultures a woman’s full lips is associated with their sensuality. There is another subset of younger women who inherit thin lips.
For many years we’ve been offering patients cosmetic surgery solutions to temporarily increase the fullness of their lips with certain injectables. Now the Robert Zubowski MD Center for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in Paramus, NJ, can provide a longer lasting procedure that also addresses the fine lines around the mouth.
You may not have yet heard about Juvéderm Volbella® XC, also called Volbella, but I’m certain you will in the coming months. It is FDA-approved for use as a lip augmentator and for the correction of perioral rhytides (perioral lines) in folks over 21. The results we’re seeing include not only improved lip fullness, without an exaggerated or inflated look, but also softened fine lines around the mouth. Another plus is that in clinical trials Volbella’s effects lasted as much as a year.
Volbella is not for everyone, specifically women who are pregnant or are nursing. And, as with all injectables, some patients may experience temporary swelling, tenderness, bruising, lumps and/or bumps, redness, discoloration and itching. However, most of these common side effects resolve within a month.
If you think Volbella might be the answer to your wishes for beautiful lips, please contact our office manager to schedule your one-to-one consultation with me. During my more than 25 years in practice as a board certified plastic surgeon I’ve done countless lip augmentations. The key to having naturally beautiful looking enhanced lips is that you must choose an experienced practitioner with the eyes of an artist and the skills of professional plastic surgeon.
