Several years ago I was one of the first New Jersey board-certified plastic surgeons to adapt an on-going plastic surgery trend of interest to new young mothers that began on the West Coast. Nicknamed the “Mommy Makeover,” its popularity quickly took hold in the East, and now includes mothers of all ages who have completed childbearing. A Mommy Makeover combines a breast augmentation and a tummy tuck. Additionally, I like to provide the enhancement of liposuction at the hips and waist to complete your makeover. This all can be done in one session in the operating arena, or alternatively, staged. However, a single session Mommy Makeover is not for everyone. A thorough evaluation of your medical history along with your surgical needs will determine if you are an appropriate candidate.
Why has the Mommy Makeover’s popularity endured? That’s an easy question to answer. Typically, after childbirth, especially for nursing mothers, the loss of breast cup volume and/or sagging, will be evident. That once-flatter tummy, no matter how diligently the patient exercises and diets, seldom returns to its former shape.
If you think a Mommy Makeover is right for you, I’d suggest you do a few things in the weeks leading up to your surgery. First, you have an excellent opportunity to start your own self-improvement plan. Being in optimum physical condition for your elective surgery will help to hasten your post-operative recovery and will maximize your goals. If you smoke, try to quit, or at least cut down on your habit. That goes for alcohol as well. Reduce carbohydrates and refined sugar intake, replacing them with more fresh vegetables and fruit. And finally, get into an exercise routine, even if you can devote only 15 minutes a day to it. To get you motivated you might like to check out this free weight loss program: www.loseit.com.
