At our Paramus New Jersey plastic surgery office, we offer two main types of breast implants. I perform both saline breast implants and silicone breast implants available in a variety of shapes and sizes for the perfect breast augmentation procedure. It’s important for my patients to understand the core differences between the two types of breast implants in order to select the right breast augmentation procedure for your body shape and your desired outcome.
Silicone breast implants feel more like your natural breast tissue and hold their shape better because of their gel-based filling. They often require larger incisions however and you may have to undergo the occasional MRI screenings to check for ruptures. We offer these screenings in the comfort of our Paramus, NJ plastic surgery office here in Bergen County so you can be at ease knowing we will always be at your side from the get go. Saline breast implants are less costly and can be inserted with a smaller incision and, in the case of a rupture, the salt water content will be absorbed by your body but is harmless to your body.
When it comes to the shape of your breast implant, the two most common are the anatomical or “tear drop” that is fuller at the bottom, and the rounded or “Victoria’s Secret” look that creates a push-up effect on top. For this, you will need to consider the surface of your breast implants. There exists both smooth breast implants that feel soft and more natural, while textured implants are firmer to the touch, and sometimes visible under the skin.
