WHAT IS A BODY LIFT?

A full body lift is a body contouring procedure designed to target a number of areas that may be characterized by sagging skin caused by dramatic weight loss and/or poor tissue elasticity. It is also an ideal solution for women who wish to regain their pre-pregnancy shape. The body lift will help you achieve a firmer, smoother and more youthful body contour.

Depending on the location of the areas to be treated, our patients may choose either an upper or lower body lift, or both, to correct excess loose and sagging skin and uneven contours of the body.

A lower body lift (belt lipectomy), is a surgical procedure that removes excess fat and skin from your hips, abdomen, waist, thighs and buttocks during one procedure.  An upper body lift involves removing excess skin and fat around the arms, back and breast.

During your initial visit at our center, you will work with Dr. Robert Zubowski to customize a thorough body lift plan based upon your personal aesthetic vision. In addition, he will provide an overview of the viable surgical approaches for the procedure. He will also determine the size and location of the incision by evaluating the parts of skin to be removed and tightened and the amount of fat to be expunged. The incision will vary according to the individual and the extent of the surgery. Finally, Dr. Zubowski will do a thorough evaluation of your medical history that will include prior procedures, motivation, skin condition and body frame.

HOW IS THE PROCEDURE PERFORMED?

During a lower body lift, Dr. Zubowski will make an incision around the circumference of your lower abdomen. For a belt lipectomy, the incision is customized to your needs and is generally made just above the hips, allowing the waist to be tightened, and any sagging skin on the lower back or abdomen to be corrected. Excess skin and fat is removed and some liposuction is used to help contour the thighs, buttocks and abdomen. Abdominal muscles are tightened any hernias present are repaired and skin is pulled tight as the incision is sutured closed. Dressing and compression garments are then applied to accelerate healing.
