What Is An Upper Arm Lift?

An upper arm lift (brachioplasty) is a surgical procedure for reshaping the upper arm by removing excess fat and tightening the skin from the under-arm region to the elbow. Brachioplasty can help you achieve slimmer, toned and more contoured arms. Popular among post-bariatric patients, arm lift surgery will offer dramatic results if you are experiencing sagging skin or flabby arms caused by excessive weight loss or aging.

During your initial visit at our center, you will work closely with Dr. Robert Zubowski, a board-certified plastic surgeon and among the top cosmetic surgeons. He will customize a thorough arm lift surgery plan based on your aesthetic vision. Dr. Zubowski will also provide an overview of appropriate surgical techniques for your procedure. During your consultation Dr. Zubowski will determine the size and location of the incision by evaluating the amount of skin to be removed and identify the location of the excess skin flap. He will also review your health history, examine your skin condition, and evaluate your body frame.

Brachioplasty Surgery

The brachioplasty procedure is performed at SurgiCenter located within our Robert Zubowski MD Center for Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery in Paramus, NJ. Your procedure will typically take about two to three hours to complete depending on the extent of work you require. Most patients are provided with the option of either a local anesthetic or a general anesthetic. In most cases, patients choose a general anesthetic for this surgery.

During your arm lift Dr. Zubowski will make an incision in the upper arm, perform liposuction, and use a muscle tightening technique to slim the area. In most cases, this incision is made at the inner and under-surface of the arm. Then he will trim away any excess skin. Once he’s completed smoothing your arm, he will close the incision with stitches that hold your skin together. Finally, your arm will be wrapped in bandages and a compression sleeve will be applied to minimize swelling. Normally, you will feel a smooth tighter arm within a few days and within a week or two the swelling and bruising will typically diminish.
